Is it Time to Refresh or Reset your Career?

Bulletin board with sticky note that reads "Fresh start this way"

All of us experience moments where we find ourselves contemplating our life decisions. Sometimes it’s a big event, like a break-up or a health crisis, that pushes us to take a closer look at our life. Other times, it might be a small rumbling in the universe that feels suspiciously like discontent that leads us to wonder if we should be doing something differently.

Whatever leads you to the brink of change, taking the steps to refresh or reset your life can be daunting.

What does it mean to refresh? When it comes to your career, refreshing might involve looking at your career overall, finding areas that need a little “freshening up” and taking action. Breathing new life into your career might include things like networking at professional events or reaching out to colleagues in your field to gain fresh insight into their own career struggles and work joys. Or, you may decide to upskill, getting up to date on the latest information, earning continuing education credits along the way or obtaining new certification. All of these can give you new perspective on a career you already enjoy. It’s like Spring cleaning, only better. It’s uplifting and refreshing.

Resetting, on the other hand, might involve a complete career shift. Sometimes the decision to change careers is ours; and sometimes we are forced into making that decision as a result of downsizing or layoffs. If you are facing a career reset, take a moment and reflect. What are your interests? What are you good at? What is your passion? You may be able to parlay these interests into a new career that will make you want to leap out of bed on Monday mornings! Online courses provide an excellent way to obtain training in a new career of your choice.
